Samuel Koberlein won Bowie Student of the Month last month for being an exceptional student.
Koberlein worked very hard to win this award. He put all his effort in to his school work to win this very honored award.
Koberlein was excited to win the award because he tries to be a good student in every way.
"It felt really good because I tried hard and I tried everything, I typed my homework, I made sure it was neat, and I turned in my work early," Koberlein said.
Koberlein was astonished when he found out that he had won Student of the Month.
"I was pretty surprised because there was another kid that i thought would win it instead of me because he was better," Koberlein said.
Joyce Brisco is a speech teacher here at Bowie who is part of the panel who decides who wins student of the month. Brisco feels Koberlein is very deserving of the award.
"I think he deserved it because he works harder than any other student, he is very dedicated, and always gives 100%," Brisco said.
A group of teachers come together to decide who wins Student of the Month.
"All the teachers that are part of the group that decides who wins the award, we all have an equal amount of power in the final decision since we vote," Brisco said.
The panel of judges had a very hard time choosing the winner of the award however Brisco said in the end Koberlein was the obvious choice.
"Samuel stood out because he was always turning in his work early and anytime he could he would go the extra the mile and type his work and go above and beyond," Brisco said.
The teachers look for many characteristics when choosing the winner. Brisco said Koberlein had all the characteristics.
"To win this award we look for students who are over achievers, students who take every opportunity to go above and beyond. We mainly look for students who always trying their best and putting all their effort in to their work," Brisco said.
Freshman Annika Holm and other students at Bowie are very happy that Koberlein won the award.
"I think Samuel deserved to win because he puts a lot of effort in to his work, he doesn't rush through his work and takes his schoolwork very seriously," Holm said.
Winning Student of the month has many future benefits.
"This award will open up so many opportunities for Samuel in the future, especially in college and on job applications," Brisco said.
Now that Koberlein has won Student of the Month he is setting new goals for himself.
"My next goal is definitely to win Student of the Year," Koberlein said.
