Journalism Ethics

1. A Suspect Confession- Professor Micheal Tracey submitted information to the police that he believed  exposed John Karr as the killer of JonBennet Ramsey. Tracey received this information from emails from Karr. Karr admitted to murdering Ramsey and was then arrested in Bangkok, Thailand.

I believe this was right because he help put a guilty man in jail. By doing this he was also protecting other people from potentially being hurt by him in the future. Even though it has been years since the murder he did it and needs to be held responsible. I don't think Tracey should have withheld the information just because of confidentiality.

2.AARGH! Pirates (and the Press)- The Ting Ting's album was leaked a month prior to the actual release date. When situations like this occur the music industries lose thousands and thousands of dollars because people download the music for free instead of pay for it. It also does not help when  popular music outlets like Billboard and Rolling Stone lead the public to the leaked music.

I don't believe these media outlets are wrong because once the music is leaked and out there its out there and you can't get it back. The media outlets actually help because they provide a way to listen to the music without actually downloading it. This benefits both sides because people can listen to the music but companies don't lose money because from downloading the music for free.

3.The Media's Foul Ball- At a Cubs verses Marlins game the Cubs were five outs from going to the World Series. However a fan kept the Cubs from getting one of their outs. The fans surrounding the man then proceeded to pelt the man with concessions.

I do not think the media should publish the man's name because it could put him in danger. It already showed in the story when people were pelting the man at the game that there are many people who are so connected to the game that they want to hurt the man. If the media publishes the man's name he would get lots of hate and aggression. If people saw him in public they would confront him and people would search for him on social networks and they would post all kinds of mean things.
